Sarcoidosis is a multisystem granulomatous disease with predominant involvement of the lungs and lymph nodes. As pulmonary involvement is common, the lungs are often the site of access for diagnostic tissue material. With the advent of novel bronchoscopic techniques, there has been an improvement in the accuracy of the diagnosis for this disease. However, there is still an unmet need for better, more accurate, and less invasive tests. Despite extensive research over decades, the etiologic agent and causative factors for this disease remain a mystery. Several questions regarding the treatment of this condition also remain unanswered.
With this Research Topic we intend to collect articles on pulmonary sarcoidosis that provide novel information on the disease mechanisms, epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment of this disease with the goal of improving our understanding of it.
In this Research Topic we welcome reviews, epidemiologic studies, original research articles, case reports, basic and translational research focusing on the following topics:
• Prevalence of pulmonary sarcoidosis in the community or descriptions of the relative prevalence of various disease subsets in large sample sizes.
• Novel diagnostic methods or novel information on existing methods of diagnosis.
• Research addressing the questions in the treatment of this condition, especially treatment indications, novel agents, and outcomes of treatment with existing or novel agents would be encouraged.
• Research that has the potential to improve the management of this pulmonary sarcoidosis
