Ovarian reserve, defined as the number of non-growing and growing follicles in the ovary, is a strong determinant of treatment success in infertile women undergoing assisted reproductive technologies (ART). In 2020, a significant percentage of women seeking fertility counselling, either present with a significant reduction in their ovarian reserve (diminished ovarian reserve (DOR)), or they respond poorly (poor ovarian response (POR)) in terms of oocyte yield following ovarian stimulation treatment.
The aim of this Research Topic is to provide first a comprehensive overview of the diagnostic and therapeutic management of these patients focusing on 5 different areas:
• The definition and diagnosis of DOR and POR
• The etiology behind DOR
• The efficacy of different assisted reproductive technologies for the management of these patients
• The novel treatment strategies that may prove promising in the future, and finally
• The risk of these patients to enter into menopause & and their management during the perimenopausal state
