Traditionally, a good school adjustment in children and adolescents has been fundamentally associated with intellectual and academic aspects, above other emotional or social skills. At present, new approaches based on the integral development of the person question such criteria that overvalued the domain of theoretical content, giving an important role to emotional competencies. Socio-emotional variables are considered to have a significant influence on the adjustment of children and young people to social pressures and academic challenges. In this sense, analyzing the role of skills such as self-esteem, emotional regulation of anxiety or social skills, among others, on the personal, social and academic development of children and adolescents becomes a topic of interest for today's society.
The aim of this Research Topic is to know which psychological and educational variables have a significant impact on the socio-emotional and academic adjustment of children and young people. To do this, multidisciplinary articles that provide innovative results in understanding and addressing this important population are particularly encouraging.
This Research Topic offers an opportunity to publish high-quality empirical (either qualitative or quantitative), theoretical, and meta-analytical articles focus on the impact of socioemotional and academic variables on children and adolescents’ adjustment. Studies with innovative research methods are most welcome.
