The research on the clinical effects and mechanisms of action of obesity/metabolic surgery has improved substantially in the last decade. A lot of questions have been answered and a lot more generated. The scope of this Research Topic is to explore where the field is heading towards in the next 5 years and identify the gaps in knowledge that need to be filled for this to take place. This has important clinical and research implications as it may "move the needle" in terms of access to surgery, best use of limited resources, optimization of surgical techniques and identification of targets for drug discovery.
We are specifically interested in review and original data publications addressing (but not limited to):
- Obesity Surgery and Cardiovascular Disease
- Obesity Surgery and Type 2 Diabetes
- Obesity Surgery and Metabolic Disorders
- Obesity Surgery and Fertility
Keywords:
Obesity, Metabolic Surgery, Type 2 Diabetes, Metabolic Disorders, Cardiovascular Disease
Important Note:
All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
