Increasing concerns over the depletion of fossil fuel, the damage caused by their extraction and exploitation, and climate change due to the use of fossil fuel have led to a growing demand for the manufacture of biofuels and bioproducts using renewable feedstocks (e.g. biomass). In the post-genome era, system and synthetic biotechnology are being rapidly developed, including genome editing tool development, chassis strains optimization, new metabolic pathway development, prediction of metabolic bottleneck, diversity exploration of substrates and products, as well as tolerance mechanism analysis, etc., which have provided powerful theories and techniques to improve the titer, yield and productivity of biofuels and bioproducts. We anticipate that advances in system and synthetic biology should enable the future development of more efficient biofuels and bioproducts manufacture.
The current article collection serves as a repository of the discoveries and advances featured at the 2nd Synthetic Biology Forum which will be an excellent opportunity to address the latest progress and advances in this fascinating discipline. This Research Topic is intended to collect research articles, technology reports, reviews, mini-reviews, perspective or opinion articles on recent technical advances in system and synthetic biology for biofuels and bioproducts.
The papers could focus on (but are not limited to) the following topics:
1: Bio-Intelligent manufacturing: Innovative tools, technologies and platforms
2: Natural products biosynthesis and metabolic engineering
3: Omics and model-driven optimization of microbial strains
4: Synthetic biology for biochemicals and biomaterials production
5: System biology application for biofuels and bioproducts production
All contributors to 2nd Synthetic Biology Forum are encouraged to submit their work, moreover, contributions are also welcome from authors who do not attend the Conference. A 30% discount on the article processing fees will be granted to all participants.
