This Research Topic will collect selected contributions from attendants of Microbiology 2019, the 33rd Congress of the Italian Society for General Microbiology and Microbial Biotechnology (SIMGBM), held in Florence, Italy, on 19th-22nd June 2019.

This Research Topic is intended to provide a collection of selected contributions from oral presentations within the general label «Antimicrobials and Host-Pathogen Interactions», including selected papers from presentations in sessions listed below. The multidisciplinary approach of this Research Topic is of great value for anyone interested in the results of Italian research in the field of «Antimicrobials and Host-Pathogen Interactions».

1. Antibiotic resistome: where do antibiotic resistance genes come from?
