The move in recent years towards low carbon emissions has exposed developing and emerging economies to various energy challenges - these include high energy prices and volatilities, high dependence on imported energy, lack of financial supports, technologies and skilled labors, etc. Indeed, this structural change in the economy may cause fossil fuels to become increasingly costly and difficult to operate, thus resulting in a lower growth in fossil fuel energy production. High volatility and uncertainty in world energy prices may add additional pressure to production costs and households’ purchasing power.
In this framework, investments in renewable and clean energy production, and energy efficient products and technologies need significant input and support from developed countries. Developing and emerging economies need to figure out sustainable financing schemes for clean-energy investment and new product development.
This Research Topic encourages articles that examine the theory, empirical and policy related issues of energy economics and energy finance in developing and emerging economies. Themes of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Energy and Economic Development
- Energy and Environmental Issues
- Economic and Financial Analysis of Energy Markets
- Econometrics and Modeling on Energy Prices
- Energy and Financial Market Interactions
- Energy in Corporate Finance
- Assessment and Modeling of Energy Risks
- Green Finance and Investment
Submissions are expected to provide comprehensive explanations and practical solutions for developing and emerging economies to landscape their energy sector.
