Successful biological systems are often taken as models for the design of man-made systems, both at the algorithmic level and the hardware level. The theme of this Research Topic is a converse: the process of translating biological strategies into engineered ones can lead to new insights about the biological system such as understanding its essential features, the extent to which it is specialized, or the constraints under which it operates.
We invite neuroscience-focused papers that identify or explore such insights, across all modalities including but not limited to vision, language, sensorimotor integration, motor control, and navigation. Review papers and opinion pieces will also be considered but should be discussed with one of the Editors prior to submission.
