The nursing profession in China is predominantly female, with male nurses significantly underrepresented. This gender disparity is influenced by societal attitudes and stereotypes. An instrument to measure public attitudes towards male nurses in China is essential for addressing this issue. Objective: To adapt and validate the Attitude of People Toward Men in Nursing Profession Questionnaire (AMnQ) for use in China.A cross-sectional validation study was conducted. The study was carried out in various urban and rural settings across China.Participants: A total of 480 Chinese adults participated in the survey. The original AMnQ was translated into Chinese using forward and backward translation techniques. The psychometric properties of the Chinese version were assessed through internal consistency, split-half reliability, temporal stability, expert review, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA).The Chinese AMnQ demonstrated strong internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.823) and reliability (split-half = 0.904; test-retest = 0.747). Content validity was high (S-CVI = 0.981). EFA indicated a three-factor structure, which was further supported by CFA with acceptable model fit indices. The Chinese AMnQ is a reliable and valid tool for assessing attitudes towards male nurses in China. It can be used to inform interventions aimed at reducing gender bias and promoting diversity in the nursing profession.
