Vaccination is considered to be one of the most effective interventions for individual and collective protection of the population against the risks caused by exposure to various pathogens. The COVID-19 infection caused a severe acute respiratory syndrome that affected population of all ages, worldwide. Since that moment, several pharmaceutical companies had the opportunity and the industrial means to develop a vaccine in a very short period of time, releasing new, improved and combined vaccines for community immunization. This review aims to present a summary of the literature data regarding the efficiency and safety of COVID-19 vaccine in pediatric population (0 to 18 years), by analyzing the most recent published studies. Most of clinical trials that were reviewed in this article reported sustained immune response after COVID-19 vaccination in children of all age-groups, worldwide. The effectiveness and safety of immunization schedule in children and adolescents were also highlighted by most of the authors. Population-level effectiveness of this vaccination is still to be determined, as long as the beneficial response overcomes the potential risks. There is still the need to monitor the long-term side-effects, in order to have the opportunity to develop new, safer and more effective vaccines to reduce the impact of a new pandemic.
