The results showed that: (1) The average scores of the seven SCL-90 factors were negatively correlated with the year of data collection; (2) The mean effect sizes of the gender differences in scores of seven dimensions (except for depression and phobic anxiety) were lower than the small effect size. In conclusion, the mental health level of Chinese physical education college students has increased in the past 25 years, although the increasing trend of mental health level of female students was more obvious, there were no significant gender differences.
