ABSTRACT=<p>Within the literature on creativity in the arts, some authors have focused on the description of the <italic>artistic</italic> process (Patrick, <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B46">1937</xref>; Getzels and Csikszentmihalyi, <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B27">1976</xref>; Mace and Ward, <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B40">2002</xref>; Yokochi and Okada, <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B64">2005</xref>) whereas others have focused on the <italic>creative</italic> process (Wallas, <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B62">1926</xref>; Osborn, <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B44">1953/1963</xref>; Runco and Dow, <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B50">1999</xref>; Howard et al., <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B35">2008</xref>). These two types of processes may be, however, somewhat distinct from each other because the creative process is not always dedicated to artistic creation, and productive work in the arts may not always involve creativity, in terms of specifically original thinking. Our goal is to identify the specific nature of the <italic>artistic creative</italic> process, to determine what are the basic stages of this kind of process. This description can then be integrated in a Creative process Report Diary (CRD; Botella et al., <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="B15">2017</xref>) which allows self-observations <italic>in situ</italic> when participants are creating.</p>
