We wish to submit an original research article entitled: Application of a protocol for cognitive-behavioral therapy of social phobia in the treatment of patients with diagnosed schizophrenia and co-occurring social anxiety. for consideration by Frontiers Psychiatry We confirm that this work is original and has not been published elsewhere, nor is it currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. The study described herein is a preliminary study that evaluated the use of a standard protocol for cognitive-behavioural therapy in the treatment of social phobia, in which social exposure uses virtual reality (CBT + VRET). The study was conducted in a group of inpatients in a clinical psychiatric unit. Our preliminary study indicate that the use of a standard CBT therapy protocol combined with virtual reality exposures may be an interesting therapeutic option for people diagnosed with schizophrenia with social anxiety. However, this needs to be confirmed in a larger group of patients in a randomised clinical trial.
