    The field of serum metabolomics is revolutionizing our understanding of disease mechanisms, and at 8 the same time offers unprecedented opportunities in diagnostics and personalized medicine. This 9 special issue (SI) entitled "Serum Metabolites in Diagnostics and Therapeutics" presents a collection 10 of research articles that, overall, show the potential of metabolomics to capture real-time biochemical 11 snapshots: especially this aspect makes metabolomics a valuable approach for early disease detection, 12 therapeutic monitoring, and biomarker discovery.
