They pertain numerous cargos and functionalities from parental cells, and are featured by enhanced stability and flexibility that render their massive ex vivo production and in situ application feasible. Exosome is rapidly gaining momentum as a novel strategy for the diagnosis and therapeutics of a spectrum of diseases, as evidenced by the surging number of scientific publications, clinical trials and industrial financial activities within recent years. This paper focuses on cancer therapeutics, characterizes exosomes into two clinically relevant applications, i.e., immune-therapeutics and drug delivery, reviews current innovations based on exosomes, and casts our insights on how cold atmospheric plasma, an emerging anti-cancer strategy, may aid in the conceptual and technological innovations in exosome-based onco-therapeutics towards our improved power over cancers.
