Marine engineering projects have played an important role in global economic development and resource utilization, promoting the industrialization and urbanization of coastal areas. However, the impact of the rapid development of marine engineering projects on the ocean environment cannot be ignored, especially in ecologically sensitive areas such as Laizhou Bay. In this study, we used the MIKE 21 module to compare and analyze the characteristics of the tidal field in Laizhou Bay before (2002) and after (2020) marine engineering construction and the diffusion characteristics of dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) by main seagoing rivers (Yellow and Xiaoqing rivers). The results show that the construction of marine engineering along the coast altered the hydrodynamic conditions, resulting in a significant decreased in the flow velocity on both sides of marine projects such as dykes, and a decreased diffusion range of DIN but an increased overall diffusion concentration. This study provides a reference for future developmental marine activities and environmental management of the bay.
