ABSTRACT=<p>Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) are a leading cause of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. One of the more severe HDP diagnoses is preeclampsia, which is recognized as a sex-specific cardiovascular risk enhancer with long-term implications for women's health, increasing lifetime risk of ischemic heart disease, stroke, and heart failure. Though the mechanisms accounting for the increased risk of cardiovascular disease following HDP are not yet well understood, vascular dysfunction has been implicated. In this perspective piece, we summarize the existing evidence for vascular dysfunction in HDP with a focus on non-invasive assessments, highlight advances in the field, and suggest future directions for improving risk stratification of women with HDP.</p>
