Cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) is a relatively common but under-recognised cause of stroke in older adults. It is characterised by the accumulation of Amyloid beta (Aß) peptide in small- to medium-sized blood vessels resulting in lobar intracerebral hemorrhage. There are both familial and sporadic forms of CAA and unfortunately no predictive measure or disease modifying treatments are available for any form of the disease. The 8th International CAA Conference, Perth Australia was an exciting platform to share novel research, learn from other researchers, and network with colleagues from all over the world. The 8th ICAA Conference had several highlights including Iatrogenic CAA, Amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIAs), Dutch-Type CAA, novel fluid and imaging biomarkers for pre-clinical, prodromal, and clinical CAA stages, animal models of CAA, clinical manifestation and diagnostic criteria, as well as clinical trials. The Conference also had a well received public forum.
