Cognition plays out over multiple time scales, but since the brain itself is a complex nonlinear system, cognitive processing does not often proceed linearly. From the perception of time itself, which is modulated by different cognitive states, to the stabilization of memories, which is altered in different ways by interacting factors like decay and offline processing, the temporal dynamics of cognitive processing remain a fruitful area for scientific inquiry. This research topic concerns how aspects of cognitive processing change with time. Behavioral, neural, stimulation, or computational modeling studies on the dynamics of cognitive processing will be considered, including how information is combined across modalities, how processing is modulated by attention, and how memory and semantic networks are formed.
