The molecular mechanisms underpinning the innate ability of plants to defend against microbial pathogens are of great interest worldwide. In addition to genetic analyses, researchers have increasingly turned to biochemical and proteomic assays to address questions related to plant immunity and pathogen virulence. Protein binding partners and post-translational modifications are central to signal transduction networks resulting in host immune responses, and studying these molecular events is at the forefront of plant-microbe interactions research. In this Research Topic, we will collect Mini-Reviews describing current work on the plant immune system with a focus on protein biology. The Research Topic will be sub-divided into the following sections:
1. Immune protein complexes
2. Membrane interactions
3. Post-translational modifications
4. Structure/function analyses
Although the focus of this research topic is to discuss current knowledge of the mechanisms regulating plant innate immunity, we also hope to publish at least one paper per sub-section discussing techniques and technological advances.
