Novel paper impact algorithms monitor and operate on each article to determine the impact of the paper on the readers and subsequent research. The Frontiers Distillation System filters and distils outstanding research and selects it for publication in a higher tier journal. Frontiers introduces the first Tier Journal Publication Model: Articles are submitted to the electronic Frontiers Specialty Journals and application of the Frontiers Evaluation System allows the identification of the most outstanding research, which are then invited to be published in the online and hardcopy Frontiers Field Journal, Frontiers in Neuroscience, making it accessible to the wider neuroscience community.
